In ancient Israel, a scapegoat was a literal goat on which the sins of the people were transferred—the goat was then set loose in the wilderness, to die. Since scapegoating seems to be based on human psychology, many cultures have practiced forms of it. Modern scapegoats are those people that get singled out, pointed to as “bad,” on which the collective’s flaws are projected. Rene Girard in his Violence and the Sacred expounds upon how scapegoating is inherent in human religiosity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scapegoating In Molly and the Mark of the Dragon Slayer, there are various references by Sophia to humans scapegoating each other.

Partly because of their biology (all that testosterone) and partly from the hidden messages in contemporary culture, men are generally more aggressive than women, especially since they can c get away with it. But it is not always so and need not be so. In Molly O’Brien and the Mark of the Dragon Slayer, Sophia decries how male egos and their feelings of sexual and psychological inferiority, as well as male competition to be number one and the biggest, have almost destroyed the Earth with their love of missiles and weapons, which have escalated into the Cuban Missile Crisis.

One aspect of Sophia’s mission with Molly is to get people to become more conscious and become more wise, to see through their habit patterns. Another aim is to show how Molly in her life can be an example to girls and women and even to boys and men that girls and women need not always remain victims and powerless and have their identities tied up with a man (like their husband or lover); they are human beings in their own right.

Vampires are negative beliefs or thought-forms. Since in occult physiology the person’s life-images reside in the blood, vampires suck the vitality or the life force of individuals in order to keep themselves alive (as vampires); then the victim too becomes a denizen of the vampire world.

Here’s an example of a vampire as thought form (true story): a 45 year old woman went to work for a fundamentalist Christian organization. She was neither Christian or non-Christian, but a happy, talented, out-going mother who owned a thriving business. Within a year, “Beth” got “saved”: she had been pressured to join this large organization and soon had a conversion experience. But something went terribly wrong when she obeyed the command of the minister to go out and convert her friends. Her friends were shocked at the change in her: she was fearful, guilty, and beating herself up for her unworthiness and failure in the conversion business. Within weeks, she was hospitalized for a mental breakdown. She started having hallucinations and became suicidal. Her friends described her as “soulless” — her soul had disappeared, they said, from her eyes. She was an scary empty shell. THIS is what a vampire is: it is a BELIEF that is contrary to nature, to life, to common sense. When a person adopts something that is wrong for them, it drains their “blood” – their vitality, their life force. In this case, “Beth” allowed her life force to be sucked out of her by this particular Christian organization.

In Molly O’Brien & the Mark of the Dragon Slayer, Sophia tells Molly, “Did you know that beliefs that hang around too long turn into vampires? But they don’t have sharp teeth or wear black cloaks. But they really do go looking for slender young necks with brains on top . . . they suck off human minds. They are shapeless blobs of energy ready to attach themselves like a leech to people who will give them life so they can survive.”
All the vampire books out there, like Stephanie Meyers’ Twilight, only go so far with vampirism – that it’s just physical blood vampires drink, not the real stuff of the universe, i.e., thought-forms.
