Molly O’Brien and the Mark of the Dragon Slayer
by Kathleen Damiani

A new kind of heroine, a new kind of fantasy novel and series. Fun with meaning, a positive vision.  For teens, both girls and boys.  Beings from Biblical, alchemical, and esoteric tradition, as well as history and allegorical fiction appear in this Molly-Dragon Slayer novel.

Molly O’Brien is “everygirl” who’s catapulted into a not-quite earthly Middle Realm at age eight. There she meets an exotic Tree Woman who calls herself Sophia, and receives a “mark of the dragon slayer” on her wounded thigh.

When Molly is fourteen, during the middle of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, she again encounters Sophia. As Sophia instructs Molly in “Wisdom” and dragons they go on an adventurous journey, see the Great Dragon himself in his volcanic lava pits, and finally confront his form as the Demon Ialdabaoth, who’s ultimately responsible for the Cuban Crisis.

After Sophia’s successful battle with Ialdabaoth, Molly goes on to further adventures  in La Ville de Sophie and its environs, including developing a romantic interest in a young man who’s the disciple of a high adept,  visiting the Hall of Philosophy and  the Women’s Temple, and being tricked to sign Mephistopheles’s Book of Magic. The cast of characters is rich and subtle; many of them will appear in future Molly volumes, as wisdom is brought to life.

Molly and the Mark of the Dragon Slayer is Sophia’s first appearance in fiction in Kathleen Damiani’s writings about Sophia–Wisdom–her lifelong passion.
